SSC 345 Geography Field Course

8 students from RA and 16 students from UCU (University College Utrecht) are travelling to New York soon for a geography field course (SSC 345) under the supervision of Prof.Dr. Jan van Weesep and Prof. dr. Rob van der Vaart of UCU, and Dr. Tuna Tasan-Kok of RA. SSC 345 Geography Field Course is an off-campus course, which is taking place between 29th of May till 15th of July. The course requires 2 weeks preparation in Utrecht, 1 week in the field (in New York), and 2 weeks producing papers on the basis of the field research of New York. Selected RA students Yvette Lanting, Lisa Deijl, Maurits Brenninkmeijer, Miriam Broeks, Luuk van Kessel, Melanija Tacconi, Annabelle Beusekom, and Sophie Rijnaard have been in Utrecht for the last two weeks to follow the intensive theoretical part of the lectures organized by UCU. The group will leave to New York on the 13th of June and will stay there till the 21st of June to conduct their field study. The field study includes lectures (by scholars from Columbia University and Rutgers University); briefings and presentations (by the NYCity Agencies, community centers, private and non-profit sector professionals, planning officials, development corporations); site visits and tours (including guided tours to Queens, Jersey Waterfront, WTC, Brooklyn, etc); fieldworks in diverse neighborhoods, and student presentations.
